Art Is A Promise Of Happiness

Art Is A Promise Of Happiness

When we look at the ideas of Walter Benjamin about reproduction of art, relations between art and technology, we reach to a point which has negative views about reproduction and technological advances about art.

With the newest technological advances, artists and techniques, almost every artwork can be reproduced by some other artist sor computers. We can find Mona Lisa on the Wall of a cafe, or we can put Monet’s ‘’Impression, Sunrise’’ painting on our flats Wall. But when we do these things and make more reproductions, Walter Benjamin claims that it’s harming the real, original artwork. Because according to this logic, it has not the same emotions and feelings in it. Ofcourse we can understand, we can feel things about reproduction but it’s not consisted by the same aura.

According to Benjamin’s ideas, true happiness is real art  it’s mean, every art which not fake, not copy made by real artist. But almost none of us have the original artworks and reproductions are harming happiness of art. We just have which systems offers us. Nothing more.

Second Lesson's Notes

Jacques Lacan: Real and reality is differernt. Reality is a sybolic fabric and the real is a hole in the fabric. İt can’t explain, just sybolized. It’s traumatic.

S.Freud: In his approach, traumatic experiences have their place in unconsciousness.

Descartes: He aganist to Platon. The age of reason: ideas are just shadows of all physical reality.

K.Marx: Physical reality is condition of our life.  There is a curtain and it’s image of our thoghts. The curtain is ideology. İdeology perplex to true reality, to do real conditions of our lives. This curtain changes the conception of reality.
Example: we’re in an uncomfortable place but we take it as a normal situation, we don’t do anything to change it. Then we do the same things, so the system reproduce itself by our behaviors and actions. We are both – subject and object of this system and ideology. Object because: it affects us, subject because: we reproduce it by our actions. Descartes called that the false consciousness.

Culture industry mass media put in that ideology to the working class brains. Mass media inject ideology of ruling class to working class brain. This stutiation teach that how working class live in capitalist system and reproduce it. The most danger of culturel industry is that it supports to fake necessity for people and satisfy thanks to consume the products of capitalism.

Another part of reality-internet: Virtual reality

Virtual and real are not completely different because they work together. For example, we can transfer easily lots of money from any country to another thanks to one button. So the process is in virtual but it is real.

The different between simulation and virtual reality is freedom. For example, flight simulators isn’t free for you because of real flight conditions but you are free at virtual reality so you can do what ever you want.

Cultivation Theory: If you watch TV a lot and see crime, violence you think that there are a lot of crime compare to reality. How can you measure the crime and violence?  Does mass media has direct effect on behaviors, ideas?

Media Messages: We think that media messages are effect on people behaviors indirectly because there are some criterions such as education levels, age, gender, culture, belief, geography, language, etnic origin factors will be different on people who be exposed to media message. These factors are important to comment media messages. Because of these variances, media messages effect people differents level. How much these process effect us, our behaviors will change as far as degree of effects.
